Traveling to Thailand During The COVID-19 Crisis—Important Updates!

Since late March of 2020, the Kingdom of Thailand had closed its borders in an effort to control the spread of COVID-19. On July 3rd, 2020, the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand partially lifted the travel ban and allowed certain categories of people to travel to Thailand. The foreigners who are eligible for entry must apply for a Certificate of Entry from their local Thai embassy and present it at the airport to be granted entry upon arrival.

UPDATE — August 4th, 2020

On August 4th, 2020, the government of Thailand added a few additional groups to the list of foreigners allowed entry to the Kingdom. People traveling to Thailand can be subjected to a 14-day mandatory quarantine and must comply with all other preventive measures placed by the government to curb the spread of the virus in the Kingdom.

Additional Documents Required

All foreigners and non-Thai nationals are required to prepare some additional documents before traveling to Thailand for permission to enter the Kingdom. These include:

· Certificate of Entry (COE) obtained by the local Thai consulate or embassy according to their current location. The application for a certificate of entry must be placed at least ten working days prior to the date of travel by providing relevant documentation to the embassy.

· COVID-19 medical test results and Fit to Fly Certificate issued by the relevant authority. Both the certificate and medical test report must be issued no more than 72 hours before the intended date of travel.

· A health insurance policy that will cover any medical expenses and treatment related to COVID-19 and must have a minimum coverage of 100,000 USD.
